Thus says the LORD to his anointed, Cyrus,
\nwhose right hand I grasp,
\nsubduing nations before him,
\nand making kings run in his service,
\nopening doors before him
\nand leaving the gates unbarred:
\nFor the sake of Jacob, my servant,
\nof Israel, my chosen one,
\nI have called you by your name,
\ngiving you a title, though you knew me not.
\nI am the LORD and there is no other,
\nthere is no God besides me.
\nIt is I who arm you, though you know me not,
\nso that toward the rising and the setting of the sun
\npeople may know that there is none besides me.
\nI am the LORD, there is no other.<\/p>\n

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the church of the Thessalonians
\nin God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
\ngrace to you and peace.
\nWe give thanks to God always for all of you,
\nremembering you in our prayers,
\nunceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love
\nand endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ,
\nbefore our God and Father,
\nknowing, brothers and sisters loved by God,
\nhow you were chosen.
\nFor our gospel did not come to you in word alone,
\nbut also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with much conviction.<\/p>\n

Gospel<\/strong>\u00a0Mt 22:15-21<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The Pharisees went off
\nand plotted how they might entrap Jesus in speech.
\nThey sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying,
\n“Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
\nAnd you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion,
\nfor you do not regard a person’s status.
\nTell us, then, what is your opinion:
\nIs it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?”
\nKnowing their malice, Jesus said,
\n“Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? Show me the coin that pays the census tax.”
\nThen they handed him the Roman coin.
\nHe said to them, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?”
\nThey replied, “Caesar’s.”
\nAt that he said to them,
