You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. If you do afflict them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry; and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.<\/p>\n<p>If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor, and you shall not exact interest from him. If ever you take your neighbor\u2019s garment in pledge, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Second Reading &#8211; 1 Thes 1:5C-10<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Brothers and sisters:<br \/>\nYou know what sort of people we were among you for your sake.<br \/>\nAnd you became imitators of us and of the Lord,<br \/>\nreceiving the word in great affliction, with joy from the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\nso that you became a model for all the believers<br \/>\nin Macedonia and in Achaia.<br \/>\nFor from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth<br \/>\nnot only in Macedonia and in Achaia,<br \/>\nbut in every place your faith in God has gone forth,<br \/>\nso that we have no need to say anything.<br \/>\nFor they <span style=\"color: #993300;\">themselves<\/span> openly declare about us<br \/>\nwhat sort of reception we had among you,<br \/>\nand how you turned to God from idols<br \/>\nto serve the living and true God<br \/>\nand to await his Son from heaven,<br \/>\nwhom he raised from the dead,<br \/>\nJesus, who delivers us from the coming wrath.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Gospel &#8211; Matthew 22:34-40<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,<br \/>\nthey gathered together, and one of them,<br \/>\na scholar of the law tested him by asking,<br \/>\n&#8220;Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?&#8221;<br \/>\nHe said to him,<br \/>\n&#8220;You shall love the Lord, your God,<br \/>\nwith all your heart,<br \/>\nwith all your soul,<br \/>\nand with all your mind.<br \/>\nThis is the greatest and the first commandment.<br \/>\nThe second is like it:<br \/>\nYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.<br \/>\nThe whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First Reading &#8211; Exodus 22:20-26 Whoever sacrifices to any god, save to the Lord only, shall be utterly destroyed.
