First Reading – ROM\u00a011<\/span><\/h4>\n

Brothers and sisters:
\nI ask, then, has God rejected his people?
\nOf course not!
\nFor I too am a child of Israel, a descendant of Abraham,
\nof the tribe of Benjamin.
\nGod has not rejected his people whom he foreknew.
\nDo you not know what the Scripture says about Elijah,
\nhow he pleads with God against Israel?<\/p>\n

Hence I ask, did they stumble so as to fall?
\nOf course not!
\nBut through their transgression
\nsalvation has come to the Gentiles,
\nso as to make them jealous.
\nNow if their transgression is enrichment for the world,
\nand if their diminished number is enrichment for the Gentiles,
\nhow much more their full number.<\/p>\n

I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers and sisters,
\nso that you will not become wise in your own estimation:
\na hardening has come upon Israel in part,
\nuntil the full number of the Gentiles comes in,
\nand thus all Israel will be saved, as it is written:<\/p>\n

The deliverer will come out of Zion,
\nhe will turn away godlessness from Jacob;
\nand this is my covenant with them
\nwhen I take away their sins.<\/em><\/p>\n

In respect to the Gospel, they are enemies on your account;
\nbut in respect to election,
\nthey are beloved because of the patriarch.
\nFor the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.<\/p>\n

Gospel – LK 14:1,7-11<\/span><\/h4>\n

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
\nat the home of one of the leading Pharisees,
\nand the people there were observing him carefully.<\/p>\n

He told a parable to those who had been invited,
\nnoticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table.
\n“When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet,
\ndo not recline at table in the place of honor.
\nA more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him,
\nand the host who invited both of you may approach you and say,
\n‘Give your place to this man,’
\nand then you would proceed with embarrassment
\nto take the lowest place.
\nRather, when you are invited,
\ngo and take the lowest place
\nso that when the host comes to you he may say,
\n‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’
\nThen you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table.
\nFor everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,
