First Reading –\u00a0Wis 13<\/span><\/h4>\n

All men were by nature foolish who were in ignorance of God,
\nand who from the good things seen did not succeed in knowing him who is,
\nand from studying the works did not discern the artisan;
\nBut either fire, or wind, or the swift air,
\nor the circuit of the stars, or the mighty water,
\nor the luminaries of heaven, the governors of the world, they considered gods.
\nNow if out of joy in their beauty they thought them gods,
\nlet them know how far more excellent is the Lord than these;
\nfor the original source of beauty fashioned them.
\nOr if they were struck by their might and energy,
\nlet them from these things realize how much more powerful is he who made them.
\nFor from the greatness and the beauty of created things
\ntheir original author, by analogy, is seen.
\nBut yet, for these the blame is less;
\nFor they indeed have gone astray perhaps,
\nthough they seek God and wish to find him.
\nFor they search busily among his works,
\nbut are distracted by what they see, because the things seen are fair.
\nBut again, not even these are pardonable.
\nFor if they so far succeeded in knowledge
\nthat they could speculate about the world,
\nhow did they not more quickly find its Lord?<\/p>\n

Gospel – Luke 17<\/span><\/h4>\n

Jesus said to his disciples:
\n“As it was in the days of Noah,
\nso it will be in the days of the Son of Man;
\nthey were eating and drinking,
\nmarrying and giving in marriage up to the day
\nthat Noah entered the ark,
\nand the flood came and destroyed them all.
\nSimilarly, as it was in the days of Lot:
\nthey were eating, drinking, buying,
\nselling, planting, building;
\non the day when Lot left Sodom,
\nfire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all.
\nSo it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
\nOn that day, someone who is on the housetop
\nand whose belongings are in the house
\nmust not go down to get them,
\nand likewise one in the field
\nmust not return to what was left behind.
\nRemember the wife of Lot.
\nWhoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it,
\nbut whoever loses it will save it.
\nI tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed;
\none will be taken, the other left.
\nAnd there will be two women grinding meal together;
\none will be taken, the other left.”
\nThey said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?”
\nHe said to them, “Where the body is,
