First Reading –\u00a0Wis 18<\/span><\/h4>\n

When peaceful stillness compassed everything
\nand the night in its swift course was half spent,
\nYour all-powerful word, from heaven’s royal throne
\nbounded, a fierce warrior, into the doomed land,
\nbearing the sharp sword of your inexorable decree.
\nAnd as he alighted, he filled every place with death;
\nhe still reached to heaven, while he stood upon the earth.<\/p>\n

For all creation, in its several kinds, was being made over anew,
\nserving its natural laws,
\nthat your children might be preserved unharmed.
\nThe cloud overshadowed their camp;
\nand out of what had before been water, dry land was seen emerging:
\nOut of the Red Sea an unimpeded road,
\nand a grassy plain out of the mighty flood.
\nOver this crossed the whole nation sheltered by your hand,
\nafter they beheld stupendous wonders.
\nFor they ranged about like horses,
\nand bounded about like lambs,
\npraising you, O Lord! their deliverer.<\/p>\n

Gospel – Luke 18<\/span><\/h4>\n

Jesus told his disciples a parable
\nabout the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
\nHe said, “There was a judge in a certain town
\nwho neither feared God nor respected any human being.
\nAnd a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
\n‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’
\nFor a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
\n‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
\nbecause this widow keeps bothering me
\nI shall deliver a just decision for her
\nlest she finally come and strike me.'”
\nThe Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
\nWill not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
\nwho call out to him day and night?
\nWill he be slow to answer them?
\nI tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
\nBut when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
