First Reading –\u00a0Daniel 7<\/span><\/h4>\n

I, Daniel, found my spirit anguished within its covering of flesh,
\nand I was terrified by the visions of my mind.
\nI approached one of those present
\nand asked him what all this meant in truth;
\nin answer, he made known to me the meaning of the things:
\n“These four great beasts stand for four kingdoms
\nwhich shall arise on the earth.
\nBut the holy ones of the Most High shall receive the kingship,
\nto possess it forever and ever.”<\/p>\n

But I wished to make certain about the fourth beast,
\nso very terrible and different from the others,
\ndevouring and crushing with its iron teeth and bronze claws,
\nand trampling with its feet what was left;
\nabout the ten horns on its head, and the other one that sprang up,
\nbefore which three horns fell;
\nabout the horn with the eyes and the mouth that spoke arrogantly,
\nwhich appeared greater than its fellows.
\nFor, as I watched, that horn made war against the holy ones
\nand was victorious until the Ancient One arrived;
\njudgment was pronounced in favor of the holy ones of the Most High,
\nand the time came when the holy ones possessed the kingdom.
\nHe answered me thus:<\/p>\n

“The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth
\ndifferent from all the others;
\nIt shall devour the whole earth,
\nbeat it down, and crush it.
\nThe ten horns shall be ten kings
\nrising out of that kingdom;
\nanother shall rise up after them,
\nDifferent from those before him,
\nwho shall lay low three kings.
\nHe shall speak against the Most High
\nand oppress the holy ones of the Most High,
\nthinking to change the feast days and the law.
\nThey shall be handed over to him
\nfor a year, two years, and a half-year.
\nBut when the court is convened,
\nand his power is taken away
\nby final and absolute destruction,
\nThen the kingship and dominion and majesty
\nof all the kingdoms under the heavens
\nshall be given to the holy people of the Most High,
\nWhose Kingdom shall be everlasting:
\nall dominions shall serve and obey him.”<\/p>\n

Gospel – Luke 21<\/span><\/h4>\n

Jesus said to his disciples:
\n“Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy
\nfrom carousing and drunkenness
\nand the anxieties of daily life,
\nand that day catch you by surprise like a trap.
\nFor that day will assault everyone
\nwho lives on the face of the earth.
\nBe vigilant at all times
\nand pray that you have the strength
\nto escape the tribulations that are imminent
