First Reading –\u00a0Genesis 3<\/span><\/h4>\n

After the man, Adam, had eaten of the tree,
\nthe LORD God called to the man and asked him, “Where are you?”
\nHe answered, “I heard you in the garden;
\nbut I was afraid, because I was naked,
\nso I hid myself.”
\nThen he asked, “Who told you that you were naked?
\nYou have eaten, then,
\nfrom the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!”
\nThe man replied, “The woman whom you put here with meC
\nshe gave me fruit from the tree, and so I ate it.”
\nThe LORD God then asked the woman,
\n“Why did you do such a thing?”
\nThe woman answered, “The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it.”<\/p>\n

Then the LORD God said to the serpent:
\n“Because you have done this, you shall be banned
\nfrom all the animals
\nand from all the wild creatures;
\non your belly shall you crawl,
\nand dirt shall you eat
\nall the days of your life.
\nI will put enmity between you and the woman,
\nand between your offspring and hers;
\nhe will strike at your head,
\nwhile you strike at his heel.”<\/p>\n

The man called his wife Eve,
\nbecause she became the mother of all the living.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Second\u00a0Reading –\u00a0Eph 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

Brothers and sisters:
\nBlessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
\nwho has blessed us in Christ
\nwith every spiritual blessing in the heavens,
\nas he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world,
\nto be holy and without blemish before him.
\nIn love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ,
\nin accord with the favor of his will,
\nfor the praise of the glory of his grace
\nthat he granted us in the beloved.<\/p>\n

In him we were also chosen,
\ndestined in accord with the purpose of the One
\nwho accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will,
\nso that we might exist for the praise of his glory,
\nwe who first hoped in Christ.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Luke 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

The angel Gabriel was sent from God
\nto a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
\nto a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
\nof the house of David,
\nand the virgin’s name was Mary.
\nAnd coming to her, he said,
\n“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
\nBut she was greatly troubled at what was said
\nand pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
\nThen the angel said to her,
\n“Do not be afraid, Mary,
\nfor you have found favor with God.
\nBehold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
\nand you shall name him Jesus.
\nHe will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
\nand the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
\nand he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
\nand of his Kingdom there will be no end.”
\nBut Mary said to the angel,
\n“How can this be,
\nsince I have no relations with a man?”
\nAnd the angel said to her in reply,
\n“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
\nand the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
\nTherefore the child to be born
\nwill be called holy, the Son of God.
\nAnd behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
\nhas also conceived a son in her old age,
\nand this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
\nfor nothing will be impossible for God.”
\nMary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
\nMay it be done to me according to your word.”
