First Reading –\u00a0Isaiah 35<\/span><\/h4>\n

The desert and the parched land will exult;
\nthe steppe will rejoice and bloom.
\nThey will bloom with abundant flowers,
\nand rejoice with joyful song.
\nThe glory of Lebanon will be given to them,
\nthe splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
\nThey will see the glory of the LORD,
\nthe splendor of our God.
\nStrengthen the hands that are feeble,
\nmake firm the knees that are weak,
\nSay to those whose hearts are frightened:
\nBe strong, fear not!
\nHere is your God,
\nhe comes with vindication;
\nWith divine recompense
\nhe comes to save you.
\nThen will the eyes of the blind be opened,
\nthe ears of the deaf be cleared;
\nThen will the lame leap like a stag,
\nthen the tongue of the mute will sing.<\/p>\n

Streams will burst forth in the desert,
\nand rivers in the steppe.
\nThe burning sands will become pools,
\nand the thirsty ground, springs of water;
\nThe abode where jackals lurk
\nwill be a marsh for the reed and papyrus.
\nA highway will be there,
\ncalled the holy way;
\nNo one unclean may pass over it,
\nnor fools go astray on it.
\nNo lion will be there,
\nnor beast of prey go up to be met upon it.
\nIt is for those with a journey to make,
\nand on it the redeemed will walk.
\nThose whom the LORD has ransomed will return
\nand enter Zion singing,
\ncrowned with everlasting joy;
\nThey will meet with joy and gladness,
\nsorrow and mourning will flee.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Luke 5<\/span><\/h4>\n

One day as Jesus was teaching,
\nPharisees and teachers of the law,
\nwho had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem,
\nwere sitting there,
\nand the power of the Lord was with him for healing.
\nAnd some men brought on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed;
\nthey were trying to bring him in and set him in his presence.
\nBut not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd,
\nthey went up on the roof
\nand lowered him on the stretcher through the tiles
\ninto the middle in front of Jesus.
\nWhen Jesus saw their faith, he said,
\n“As for you, your sins are forgiven.”<\/p>\n

Then the scribes and Pharisees began to ask themselves,
\n“Who is this who speaks blasphemies?
\nWho but God alone can forgive sins?”
\nJesus knew their thoughts and said to them in reply,
\n“What are you thinking in your hearts?
\nWhich is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’
\nor to say, ‘Rise and walk’?
\nBut that you may know
\nthat the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”\u2013
\nhe said to the one who was paralyzed,
\n“I say to you, rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home.”<\/p>\n

He stood up immediately before them,
\npicked up what he had been lying on,
\nand went home, glorifying God.
\nThen astonishment seized them all and they glorified God,
\nand, struck with awe, they said,
