First Reading –\u00a0Is\u00a061<\/span><\/h4>\n

The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,
\nbecause the LORD has anointed me;
\nhe has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor,
\nto heal the brokenhearted,
\nto proclaim liberty to the captives
\nand release to the prisoners,
\nto announce a year of favor from the LORD
\nand a day of vindication by our God.<\/p>\n

I rejoice heartily in the LORD,
\nin my God is the joy of my soul;
\nfor he has clothed me with a robe of salvation
\nand wrapped me in a mantle of justice,
\nlike a bridegroom adorned with a diadem,
\nlike a bride bedecked with her jewels.
\nAs the earth brings forth its plants,
\nand a garden makes its growth spring up,
\nso will the Lord GOD make justice and praise
\nspring up before all the nations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Second\u00a0Reading –\u00a01 Thes<\/span><\/h4>\n

Brothers and sisters:
\nRejoice always. Pray without ceasing.
\nIn all circumstances give thanks,
\nfor this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
\nDo not quench the Spirit.
\nDo not despise prophetic utterances.
\nTest everything; retain what is good.
\nRefrain from every kind of evil.<\/p>\n

May the God of peace make you perfectly holy
\nand may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body,
\nbe preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
\nThe one who calls you is faithful,
\nand he will also accomplish it.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0John 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

A man named John was sent from God.
\nHe came for testimony, to testify to the light,
\nso that all might believe through him.
\nHe was not the light,
\nbut came to testify to the light.<\/p>\n

And this is the testimony of John.
\nWhen the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests
\nand Levites to him
\nto ask him, “Who are you?”
\nHe admitted and did not deny it,
\nbut admitted, “I am not the Christ.”
\nSo they asked him,
\n“What are you then? Are you Elijah?”
\nAnd he said, “I am not.”
\n“Are you the Prophet?”
\nHe answered, “No.”
\nSo they said to him,
\n“Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us?
\nWhat do you have to say for yourself?”
\nHe said:
\n“I am\u00a0the voice of one crying out in the desert,
\n‘make straight the way of the Lord,'”<\/em>
\nas Isaiah the prophet said.”
\nSome Pharisees were also sent.
\nThey asked him,
\n“Why then do you baptize
\nif you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet?”
\nJohn answered them,
\n“I baptize with water;
\nbut there is one among you whom you do not recognize,
\nthe one who is coming after me,
\nwhose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”
\nThis happened in Bethany across the Jordan,
