First Reading –\u00a02 Sm<\/span><\/h4>\n

When King David was settled in his palace,
\nand the LORD had given him rest from his enemies on every side,
\nhe said to Nathan the prophet,
\n“Here I am living in a house of cedar,
\nwhile the ark of God dwells in a tent!”
\nNathan answered the king,
\n“Go, do whatever you have in mind,
\nfor the LORD is with you.”
\nBut that night the LORD spoke to Nathan and said:
\n“Go, tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD:
\nShould you build me a house to dwell in?’<\/p>\n

“It was I who took you from the pasture
\nand from the care of the flock
\nto be commander of my people Israel.
\nI have been with you wherever you went,
\nand I have destroyed all your enemies before you.
\nAnd I will make you famous like the great ones of the earth.
\nI will fix a place for my people Israel;
\nI will plant them so that they may dwell in their place
\nwithout further disturbance.
\nNeither shall the wicked continue to afflict them as they did of old,
\nsince the time I first appointed judges over my people Israel.
\nI will give you rest from all your enemies.
\nThe LORD also reveals to you
\nthat he will establish a house for you.
\nAnd when your time comes and you rest with your ancestors,
\nI will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins,
\nand I will make his kingdom firm.
\nI will be a father to him,
\nand he shall be a son to me.
\nYour house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me;
\nyour throne shall stand firm forever.”<\/p>\n

Second\u00a0Reading –\u00a0Rom 16<\/span><\/h4>\n

Brothers and sisters:
\nTo him who can strengthen you,
\naccording to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ,
\naccording to the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages
\nbut now manifested through the prophetic writings and,
\naccording to the command of the eternal God,
\nmade known to all nations to bring about the obedience of faith,
\nto the only wise God, through Jesus Christ
\nbe glory forever and ever. Amen.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Luke 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

The angel Gabriel was sent from God
\nto a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
\nto a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,
\nof the house of David,
\nand the virgin’s name was Mary.
\nAnd coming to her, he said,
\n“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”
\nBut she was greatly troubled at what was said
\nand pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
\nThen the angel said to her,
\n“Do not be afraid, Mary,
\nfor you have found favor with God.<\/p>\n

“Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
\nand you shall name him Jesus.
\nHe will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,
\nand the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
\nand he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,
\nand of his kingdom there will be no end.”
\nBut Mary said to the angel,
\n“How can this be,
\nsince I have no relations with a man?”
\nAnd the angel said to her in reply,
\n“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
\nand the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
\nTherefore the child to be born
\nwill be called holy, the Son of God.
\nAnd behold, Elizabeth, your relative,
\nhas also conceived a son in her old age,
\nand this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
\nfor nothing will be impossible for God.”
\nMary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.
\nMay it be done to me according to your word.”
\nThen the angel departed from her.<\/p>\n
