First Reading –\u00a01 John 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

Beloved:
\nThis is the message that we have heard from Jesus Christ
\nand proclaim to you:
\nGod is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.
\nIf we say, “We have fellowship with him,”
\nwhile we continue to walk in darkness,
\nwe lie and do not act in truth.
\nBut if we walk in the light as he is in the light,
\nthen we have fellowship with one another,
\nand the Blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin.
\nIf we say, “We are without sin,”
\nwe deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
\nIf we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just
\nand will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing.
\nIf we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar,
\nand his word is not in us.<\/p>\n

My children, I am writing this to you
\nso that you may not commit sin.
\nBut if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father,
\nJesus Christ the righteous one.
\nHe is expiation for our sins,
\nand not for our sins only but for those of the whole world.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Matt\u00a02<\/span><\/h4>\n

When the magi had departed, behold,
\nthe angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
\n“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
\nand stay there until I tell you.
\nHerod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
\nJoseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
\nand departed for Egypt.
\nHe stayed there until the death of Herod,
\nthat what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
\nOut of Egypt I called my son.<\/em><\/p>\n

When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi,
\nhe became furious.
\nHe ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity
\ntwo years old and under,
\nin accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
\nThen was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:<\/p>\n

A voice was heard in Ramah,
\nsobbing and loud lamentation;
\nRachel weeping for her children,
\nand she would not be consoled,
\nsince they were no more.<\/em><\/p>\n
