First Reading –\u00a01 John 2<\/span><\/h4>\n

If you consider that God is righteous,
\nyou also know that everyone who acts in righteousness
\nis begotten by him.<\/p>\n

See what love the Father has bestowed on us
\nthat we may be called the children of God.
\nYet so we are.
\nThe reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
\nBeloved, we are God’s children now;
\nwhat we shall be has not yet been revealed.
\nWe do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him,
\nfor we shall see him as he is.
\nEveryone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure,
\nas he is pure.<\/p>\n

Everyone who commits sin commits lawlessness,
\nfor sin is lawlessness.
\nYou know that he was revealed to take away sins,
\nand in him there is no sin.
\nNo one who remains in him sins;
\nno one who sins has seen him or known him.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0John 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
\n“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
\nHe is the one of whom I said,
\n‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me
\nbecause he existed before me.’
\nI did not know him,
\nbut the reason why I came baptizing with water
\nwas that he might be made known to Israel.”
\nJohn testified further, saying,
\n“I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky
\nand remain upon him.
\nI did not know him,
\nbut the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
\n‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain,
\nhe is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
\nNow I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”<\/p>\n
