First Reading –\u00a01 John 5<\/span><\/h4>\n

Beloved:
\nWho indeed is the victor over the world
\nbut the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?<\/p>\n

This is the one who came through water and Blood, Jesus Christ,
\nnot by water alone, but by water and Blood.
\nThe Spirit is the one who testifies,
\nand the Spirit is truth.
\nSo there are three that testify,
\nthe Spirit, the water, and the Blood,
\nand the three are of one accord.
\nIf we accept human testimony,
\nthe testimony of God is surely greater.
\nNow the testimony of God is this,
\nthat he has testified on behalf of his Son.
\nWhoever believes in the Son of God
\nhas this testimony within himself.
\nWhoever does not believe God has made him a liar
\nby not believing the testimony God has given about his Son.
\nAnd this is the testimony:
\nGod gave us eternal life,
\nand this life is in his Son.
\nWhoever possesses the Son has life;
\nwhoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.<\/p>\n

I write these things to you so that you may know
\nthat you have eternal life,
\nyou who believe in the name of the Son of God.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Mark 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

This is what John the Baptist proclaimed:
\n“One mightier than I is coming after me.
\nI am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals.
\nI have baptized you with water;
\nhe will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”<\/p>\n

It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee
\nand was baptized in the Jordan by John.
\nOn coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open
\nand the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.
\nAnd a voice came from the heavens,
\n“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”<\/p>\n
