First Reading –\u00a01 Sm 24<\/span><\/h4>\n

Saul took three thousand picked men from all Israel
\nand went in search of David and his men
\nin the direction of the wild goat crags.
\nWhen he came to the sheepfolds along the way, he found a cave,
\nwhich he entered to relieve himself.
\nDavid and his men were occupying the inmost recesses of the cave.<\/p>\n

David’s servants said to him,
\n“This is the day of which the LORD said to you,
\n‘I will deliver your enemy into your grasp;
\ndo with him as you see fit.'”
\nSo David moved up and stealthily cut off an end of Saul’s mantle.
\nAfterward, however, David regretted that he had cut off
\nan end of Saul’s mantle.
\nHe said to his men,
\n“The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master,
\nthe LORD’s anointed, as to lay a hand on him,
\nfor he is the LORD’s anointed.”
\nWith these words David restrained his men
\nand would not permit them to attack Saul.
\nSaul then left the cave and went on his way.
\nDavid also stepped out of the cave, calling to Saul,
\n“My lord the king!”
\nWhen Saul looked back, David bowed to the ground in homage and asked Saul:
\n“Why do you listen to those who say,
\n‘David is trying to harm you’?
\nYou see for yourself today that the LORD just now delivered you
\ninto my grasp in the cave.
\nI had some thought of killing you, but I took pity on you instead.
\nI decided, ‘I will not raise a hand against my lord,
\nfor he is the LORD’s anointed and a father to me.’
\nLook here at this end of your mantle which I hold.
\nSince I cut off an end of your mantle and did not kill you,
\nsee and be convinced that I plan no harm and no rebellion.
\nI have done you no wrong,
\nthough you are hunting me down to take my life.
\nThe LORD will judge between me and you,
\nand the LORD will exact justice from you in my case.
\nI shall not touch you.
\nThe old proverb says, ‘From the wicked comes forth wickedness.’
\nSo I will take no action against you.
\nAgainst whom are you on campaign, O king of Israel?
\nWhom are you pursuing? A dead dog, or a single flea!
\nThe LORD will be the judge; he will decide between me and you.
\nMay he see this, and take my part,
\nand grant me justice beyond your reach!”
\nWhen David finished saying these things to Saul, Saul answered,
\n“Is that your voice, my son David?”
\nAnd Saul wept aloud.
\nSaul then said to David: “You are in the right rather than I;
\nyou have treated me generously, while I have done you harm.
\nGreat is the generosity you showed me today,
\nwhen the LORD delivered me into your grasp
\nand you did not kill me.
\nFor if a man meets his enemy, does he send him away unharmed?
\nMay the LORD reward you generously for what you have done this day.
\nAnd now, I know that you shall surely be king
\nand that sovereignty over Israel shall come into your possession.”<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Mark 3<\/span><\/h4>\n

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted
\nand they came to him.
\nHe appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles,
\nthat they might be with him
\nand he might send them forth to preach
\nand to have authority to drive out demons:
\nHe appointed the Twelve:
\nSimon, whom he named Peter;
\nJames, son of Zebedee,
\nand John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges,
\nthat is, sons of thunder;
\nAndrew, Philip, Bartholomew,
\nMatthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus;
\nThaddeus, Simon the Cananean,
\nand Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.<\/p>\n
