First Reading – 2 Sm<\/span><\/h4>\n

David returned from his defeat of the Amalekites
\nand spent two days in Ziklag.
\nOn the third day a man came from Saul’s camp,
\nwith his clothes torn and dirt on his head.
\nGoing to David, he fell to the ground in homage.
\nDavid asked him, “Where do you come from?”
\nHe replied, “I have escaped from the camp of the children of Israel.”
\n“Tell me what happened,” David bade him.
\nHe answered that many of the soldiers had fled the battle
\nand that many of them had fallen and were dead,
\namong them Saul and his son Jonathan.<\/p>\n

David seized his garments and rent them,
\nand all the men who were with him did likewise.
\nThey mourned and wept and fasted until evening
\nfor Saul and his son Jonathan,
\nand for the soldiers of the LORD of the clans of Israel,
\nbecause they had fallen by the sword.<\/p>\n

“Alas! the glory of Israel, Saul,
\nslain upon your heights;
\nhow can the warriors have fallen!<\/p>\n

“Saul and Jonathan, beloved and cherished,
\nseparated neither in life nor in death,
\nswifter than eagles, stronger than lions!
\nWomen of Israel, weep over Saul,
\nwho clothed you in scarlet and in finery,
\nwho decked your attire with ornaments of gold.<\/p>\n

“How can the warriors have fallen\u2013
\nin the thick of the battle,
\nslain upon your heights!<\/p>\n

“I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother!
\nmost dear have you been to me;
\nmore precious have I held love for you than love for women.<\/p>\n

“How can the warriors have fallen,
\nthe weapons of war have perished!”<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Mark 3<\/span><\/h4>\n

Jesus came with his disciples into the house.
\nAgain the crowd gathered,
\nmaking it impossible for them even to eat.
\nWhen his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him,
\nfor they said, \u201cHe is out of his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
