First Reading – 2 Sm<\/span><\/h4>\n

All the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron and said:
\n“Here we are, your bone and your flesh.
\nIn days past, when Saul was our king,
\nit was you who led the children of Israel out and brought them back.
\nAnd the LORD said to you, ‘You shall shepherd my people Israel
\nand shall be commander of Israel.'”
\nWhen all the elders of Israel came to David in Hebron,
\nKing David made an agreement with them there before the LORD,
\nand they anointed him king of Israel.
\nDavid was thirty years old when he became king,
\nand he reigned for forty years:
\nseven years and six months in Hebron over Judah,
\nand thirty-three years in Jerusalem
\nover all Israel and Judah.<\/p>\n

Then the king and his men set out for Jerusalem
\nagainst the Jebusites who inhabited the region.
\nDavid was told, “You cannot enter here:
\nthe blind and the lame will drive you away!”
\nwhich was their way of saying, “David cannot enter here.”
\nBut David did take the stronghold of Zion, which is the City of David.<\/p>\n

David grew steadily more powerful,
\nfor the LORD of hosts was with him.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Mark 3<\/span><\/h4>\n

The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said of Jesus,
\n“He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and
\n“By the prince of demons he drives out demons.”<\/p>\n

Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables,
\n“How can Satan drive out Satan?
\nIf a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
\nAnd if a house is divided against itself,
\nthat house will not be able to stand.
\nAnd if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided,
\nhe cannot stand;
\nthat is the end of him.
\nBut no one can enter a strong man’s house to plunder his property
\nunless he first ties up the strong man.
\nThen he can plunder his house.
\nAmen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies
\nthat people utter will be forgiven them.
\nBut whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit
\nwill never have forgiveness,
\nbut is guilty of an everlasting sin.”
\nFor they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.”<\/p>\n
