First Reading –\u00a02 Tm<\/span><\/h4>\n

Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God
\nfor the promise of life in Christ Jesus,
\nto Timothy, my dear child:
\ngrace, mercy, and peace from God the Father
\nand Christ Jesus our Lord.<\/p>\n

I am grateful to God,
\nwhom I worship with a clear conscience as my ancestors did,
\nas I remember you constantly in my prayers, night and day.
\nI yearn to see you again, recalling your tears,
\nso that I may be filled with joy,
\nas I recall your sincere faith
\nthat first lived in your grandmother Lois
\nand in your mother Eunice
\nand that I am confident lives also in you.<\/p>\n

For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame
\nthe gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands.
\nFor God did not give us a spirit of cowardice
\nbut rather of power and love and self-control.
\nSo do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord,
\nnor of me, a prisoner for his sake;
\nbut bear your share of hardship for the Gospel
\nwith the strength that comes from God.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Mark 4<\/span><\/h4>\n

Jesus said to the crowds:
\n\u201cThis is how it is with the Kingdom of God;
\nit is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land
\nand would sleep and rise night and day
\nand the seed would sprout and grow,
\nhe knows not how.
\nOf its own accord the land yields fruit,
\nfirst the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
\nAnd when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once,
\nfor the harvest has come.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said,
\n\u201cTo what shall we compare the Kingdom of God,
\nor what parable can we use for it?
\nIt is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground,
\nis the smallest of all the seeds on the earth.
\nBut once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants
\nand puts forth large branches,
\nso that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.\u201d
\nWith many such parables
\nhe spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it.
\nWithout parables he did not speak to them,
\nbut to his own disciples he explained everything in private.<\/p>\n
