First Reading –\u00a01 Sm 24<\/span><\/h4>\n

The LORD sent Nathan to David, and when he came to him,
\nNathan said: “Judge this case for me!
\nIn a certain town there were two men, one rich, the other poor.
\nThe rich man had flocks and herds in great numbers.
\nBut the poor man had nothing at all
\nexcept one little ewe lamb that he had bought.
\nHe nourished her, and she grew up with him and his children.
\nShe shared the little food he had
\nand drank from his cup and slept in his bosom.
\nShe was like a daughter to him.
\nNow, the rich man received a visitor,
\nbut he would not take from his own flocks and herds
\nto prepare a meal for the wayfarer who had come to him.
\nInstead he took the poor man’s ewe lamb
\nand made a meal of it for his visitor.”
\nDavid grew very angry with that man and said to him:
\n“As the LORD lives, the man who has done this merits death!
\nHe shall restore the ewe lamb fourfold
\nbecause he has done this and has had no pity.”<\/p>\n

Then Nathan said to David: “You are the man!
\nThus says the LORD God of Israel:
\n‘The sword shall never depart from your house,
\nbecause you have despised me
\nand have taken the wife of Uriah to be your wife.’
\nThus says the LORD:
\n‘I will bring evil upon you out of your own house.
\nI will take your wives while you live to see it,
\nand will give them to your neighbor.
\nHe shall lie with your wives in broad daylight.
\nYou have done this deed in secret,
\nbut I will bring it about in the presence of all Israel,
\nand with the sun looking down.'”<\/p>\n

Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.”
\nNathan answered David: “The LORD on his part has forgiven your sin:
\nyou shall not die.
\nBut since you have utterly spurned the LORD by this deed,
\nthe child born to you must surely die.”
\nThen Nathan returned to his house.<\/p>\n

The LORD struck the child that the wife of Uriah had borne to David,
\nand it became desperately ill.
\nDavid besought God for the child.
\nHe kept a fast, retiring for the night
\nto lie on the ground clothed in sackcloth.
\nThe elders of his house stood beside him
\nurging him to rise from the ground; but he would not,
\nnor would he take food with them.<\/p>\n

Gospel –\u00a0Mark 4<\/span><\/p>\n

On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples:
\n“Let us cross to the other side.”
\nLeaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was.
\nAnd other boats were with him.
\nA violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat,
\nso that it was already filling up.
\nJesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion.
\nThey woke him and said to him,
\n“Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”
\nHe woke up,
\nrebuked the wind,
\nand said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!”
\nThe wind ceased and there was great calm.
\nThen he asked them, “Why are you terrified?
\nDo you not yet have faith?”
\nThey were filled with great awe and said to one another,
\n“Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?”<\/p>\n
