First Reading –\u00a0Mal 3<\/span><\/h4>\n

Thus says the Lord God:
\nLo, I am sending my messenger
\nto prepare the way before me;
\nAnd suddenly there will come to the temple
\nthe LORD whom you seek,
\nAnd the messenger of the covenant whom you desire.
\nYes, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.
\nBut who will endure the day of his coming?
\nAnd who can stand when he appears?
\nFor he is like the refiner’s fire,
\nor like the fuller’s lye.
\nHe will sit refining and purifying silver,
\nand he will purify the sons of Levi,
\nRefining them like gold or like silver
\nthat they may offer due sacrifice to the LORD.
\nThen the sacrifice of Judah and Jerusalem
\nwill please the LORD,
\nas in the days of old, as in years gone by.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Gospel –\u00a0Luke 2<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When the days were completed for their purification
\naccording to the law of Moses,
\nMary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem
\nto present him to the Lord,
\njust as it is written in the law of the Lord,
\nEvery male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,<\/em>
\nand to offer the sacrifice of
\na pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,<\/em>
\nin accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.<\/p>\n

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.
\nThis man was righteous and devout,
\nawaiting the consolation of Israel,
\nand the Holy Spirit was upon him.
\nIt had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit
\nthat he should not see death
\nbefore he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
\nHe came in the Spirit into the temple;
\nand when the parents brought in the child Jesus
\nto perform the custom of the law in regard to him,
\nhe took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, Master, you may let your servant go
\nin peace, according to your word,
\nfor my eyes have seen your salvation,
\nwhich you prepared in the sight of all the peoples:
\na light for revelation to the Gentiles,
\nand glory for your people Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n

The child\u2019s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him;
\nand Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
\n\u201cBehold, this child is destined
\nfor the fall and rise of many in Israel,
\nand to be a sign that will be contradicted
\nBand you yourself a sword will pierceB
\nso that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.\u201d
\nThere was also a prophetess, Anna,
\nthe daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
\nShe was advanced in years,
\nhaving lived seven years with her husband after her marriage,
\nand then as a widow until she was eighty-four.
\nShe never left the temple,
\nbut worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer.
\nAnd coming forward at that very time,
\nshe gave thanks to God and spoke about the child
\nto all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions
\nof the law of the Lord,
\nthey returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
\nThe child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;
\nand the favor of God was upon him.<\/p>\n
