{"id":4281,"date":"2018-02-14T01:26:18","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T06:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sharecatholic.com\/blog\/?p=4281"},"modified":"2018-02-09T16:27:55","modified_gmt":"2018-02-09T21:27:55","slug":"mass-readings-february-14th-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sharecatholic.com\/blog\/mass-readings-february-14th-2018","title":{"rendered":"Mass Readings for February 14th, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #993300;\">First Reading &#8211; JL 2<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\">Even now, says the LORD,<br \/>\nreturn to me with your whole heart,<br \/>\nwith fasting, and weeping, and mourning;<br \/>\nRend your hearts, not your garments,<br \/>\nand return to the LORD, your God.<br \/>\nFor gracious and merciful is he,<br \/>\nslow to anger, rich in kindness,<br \/>\nand relenting in punishment.<br \/>\nPerhaps he will again relent<br \/>\nand leave behind him a blessing,<br \/>\nOfferings and libations<br \/>\nfor the LORD, your God.<\/p>\n<p>Blow the trumpet in Zion!<br \/>\nproclaim a fast,<br \/>\ncall an assembly;<br \/>\nGather the people,<br \/>\nnotify the congregation;<br \/>\nAssemble the elders,<br \/>\ngather the children<br \/>\nand the infants at the breast;<br \/>\nLet the bridegroom quit his room<br \/>\nand the bride her chamber.<br \/>\nBetween the porch and the altar<br \/>\nlet the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep,<br \/>\nAnd say, \u201cSpare, O LORD, your people,<br \/>\nand make not your heritage a reproach,<br \/>\nwith the nations ruling over them!<br \/>\nWhy should they say among the peoples,<br \/>\n\u2018Where is their God?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then the LORD was stirred to concern for his land<br \/>\nand took pity on his people.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #993300;\">Gospel &#8211; Matt 6<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\">Jesus said to his disciples:<br \/>\n&#8220;Take care not to perform righteous deeds<br \/>\nin order that people may see them;<br \/>\notherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.<br \/>\nWhen you give alms,<br \/>\ndo not blow a trumpet before you,<br \/>\nas the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets<br \/>\nto win the praise of others.<br \/>\nAmen, I say to you,<br \/>\nthey have received their reward.<br \/>\nBut when you give alms,<br \/>\ndo not let your left hand know what your right is doing,<br \/>\nso that your almsgiving may be secret.<br \/>\nAnd your Father who sees in secret will repay you.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you pray,<br \/>\ndo not be like the hypocrites,<br \/>\nwho love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners<br \/>\nso that others may see them.<br \/>\nAmen, I say to you,<br \/>\nthey have received their reward.<br \/>\nBut when you pray, go to your inner room,<br \/>\nclose the door, and pray to your Father in secret.<br \/>\nAnd your Father who sees in secret will repay you.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you fast,<br \/>\ndo not look gloomy like the hypocrites.<br \/>\nThey neglect their appearance,<br \/>\nso that they may appear to others to be fasting.<br \/>\nAmen, I say to you, they have received their reward.<br \/>\nBut when you fast,<br \/>\nanoint your head and wash your face,<br \/>\nso that you may not appear to be fasting,<br \/>\nexcept to your Father who is hidden.<br \/>\nAnd your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif; color: #993300;\">This is the\u00a0Word of the Lord.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First Reading &#8211; JL 2 Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God.
