First Reading –\u00a0Ez 18<\/span><\/h4>\n

Thus says the Lord GOD:
\nIf the wicked man turns away from all the sins he committed,
\nif he keeps all my statutes and does what is right and just,
\nhe shall surely live, he shall not die.
\nNone of the crimes he committed shall be remembered against him;
\nhe shall live because of the virtue he has practiced.
\nDo I indeed derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked?
\nsays the Lord GOD.
\nDo I not rather rejoice when he turns from his evil way
\nthat he may live?<\/p>\n

And if the virtuous man turns from the path of virtue to do evil,
\nthe same kind of abominable things that the wicked man does,
\ncan he do this and still live?
\nNone of his virtuous deeds shall be remembered,
\nbecause he has broken faith and committed sin;
\nbecause of this, he shall die.
\nYou say, “The LORD’s way is not fair!”
\nHear now, house of Israel:
\nIs it my way that is unfair, or rather, are not your ways unfair?
\nWhen someone virtuous turns away from virtue to commit iniquity, and dies,
\nit is because of the iniquity he committed that he must die.
\nBut if the wicked, turning from the wickedness he has committed,
\ndoes what is right and just,
\nhe shall preserve his life;
\nsince he has turned away from all the sins that he committed,
\nhe shall surely live, he shall not die.<\/p>\n

Gospel -Mt 5<\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus said to his disciples:
\n“I tell you,
\nunless your righteousness surpasses that
\nof the scribes and Pharisees,
\nyou will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n

“You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,
\nYou shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.<\/em>
\nBut I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother
\nwill be liable to judgment,
\nand whoever says to his brother, Raqa,
\nwill be answerable to the Sanhedrin,
\nand whoever says, ‘You fool,’ will be liable to fiery Gehenna.
\nTherefore, if you bring your gift to the altar,
\nand there recall that your brother
\nhas anything against you,
\nleave your gift there at the altar,
\ngo first and be reconciled with your brother,
\nand then come and offer your gift.
\nSettle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court.
\nOtherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge,
\nand the judge will hand you over to the guard,
\nand you will be thrown into prison.
\nAmen, I say to you,
\nyou will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”<\/p>\n
