First Reading –\u00a0Gn 22<\/span><\/h4>\n

God put Abraham to the test.
\nHe called to him, “Abraham!”
\n“Here I am!” he replied.
\nThen God said:
\n“Take your son Isaac, your only one, whom you love,
\nand go to the land of Moriah.
\nThere you shall offer him up as a holocaust
\non a height that I will point out to you.”<\/p>\n

When they came to the place of which God had told him,
\nAbraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it.
\nThen he reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son.
\nBut the LORD’s messenger called to him from heaven,
\n“Abraham, Abraham!”
\n“Here I am!” he answered.
\n“Do not lay your hand on the boy,” said the messenger.
\n“Do not do the least thing to him.
\nI know now how devoted you are to God,
\nsince you did not withhold from me your own beloved son.”
\nAs Abraham looked about,
\nhe spied a ram caught by its horns in the thicket.
\nSo he went and took the ram
\nand offered it up as a holocaust in place of his son.<\/p>\n

Again the LORD’s messenger called to Abraham from heaven and said:
\n“I swear by myself, declares the LORD,
\nthat because you acted as you did
\nin not withholding from me your beloved son,
\nI will bless you abundantly
\nand make your descendants as countless
\nas the stars of the sky and the sands of the seashore;
\nyour descendants shall take possession
\nof the gates of their enemies,
\nand in your descendants all the nations of the earth
\nshall find blessing\u2014
\nall this because you obeyed my command.”<\/p>\n

Gospel -MK 9<\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus took Peter, James, and John
\nand led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
\nAnd he was transfigured before them,
\nand his clothes became dazzling white,
\nsuch as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
\nThen Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
\nand they were conversing with Jesus.
\nThen Peter said to Jesus in reply,
\n“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
\nLet us make three tents:
\none for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
\nHe hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
\nThen a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
\nfrom the cloud came a voice,
\n“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
\nSuddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
\nbut Jesus alone with them.<\/p>\n

As they were coming down from the mountain,
\nhe charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
\nexcept when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
\nSo they kept the matter to themselves,
\nquestioning what rising from the dead meant.<\/p>\n
