First Reading –\u00a0Is 1<\/span><\/h4>\n

Hear the word of the LORD,
\nprinces of Sodom!
\nListen to the instruction of our God,
\npeople of Gomorrah!<\/p>\n

Wash yourselves clean!
\nPut away your misdeeds from before my eyes;
\ncease doing evil; learn to do good.
\nMake justice your aim: redress the wronged,
\nhear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.<\/p>\n

Come now, let us set things right,
\nsays the LORD:
\nThough your sins be like scarlet,
\nthey may become white as snow;
\nThough they be crimson red,
\nthey may become white as wool.
\nIf you are willing, and obey,
\nyou shall eat the good things of the land;
\nBut if you refuse and resist,
\nthe sword shall consume you:
\nfor the mouth of the LORD has spoken!<\/p>\n

Gospel -Mt 23<\/span><\/p>\n

Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying,
\n“The scribes and the Pharisees
\nhave taken their seat on the chair of Moses.
\nTherefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
\nbut do not follow their example.
\nFor they preach but they do not practice.
\nThey tie up heavy burdens hard to carry
\nand lay them on people’s shoulders,
\nbut they will not lift a finger to move them.
\nAll their works are performed to be seen.
\nThey widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels.
\nThey love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues,
\ngreetings in marketplaces, and the salutation ‘Rabbi.’
\nAs for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’
\nYou have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.
\nCall no one on earth your father;
\nyou have but one Father in heaven.
\nDo not be called ‘Master’;
\nyou have but one master, the Christ.
\nThe greatest among you must be your servant.
\nWhoever exalts himself will be humbled;
\nbut whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”<\/p>\n
