First Reading –\u00a0Gn 37<\/span><\/h4>\n

Israel loved Joseph best of all his sons,
\nfor he was the child of his old age;
\nand he had made him a long tunic.
\nWhen his brothers saw that their father loved him best of all his sons,
\nthey hated him so much that they would not even greet him.<\/p>\n

One day, when his brothers had gone
\nto pasture their father’s flocks at Shechem,
\nIsrael said to Joseph,
\n“Your brothers, you know, are tending our flocks at Shechem.
\nGet ready; I will send you to them.”<\/p>\n

So Joseph went after his brothers and caught up with them in Dothan.
\nThey noticed him from a distance,
\nand before he came up to them, they plotted to kill him.
\nThey said to one another: “Here comes that master dreamer!
\nCome on, let us kill him and throw him into one of the cisterns here;
\nwe could say that a wild beast devoured him.
\nWe shall then see what comes of his dreams.”<\/p>\n

When Reuben heard this,
\nhe tried to save him from their hands, saying,
\n“We must not take his life.
\nInstead of shedding blood,” he continued,
\n“just throw him into that cistern there in the desert;
\nbut do not kill him outright.”
\nHis purpose was to rescue him from their hands
\nand return him to his father.
\nSo when Joseph came up to them,
\nthey stripped him of the long tunic he had on;
\nthen they took him and threw him into the cistern,
\nwhich was empty and dry.<\/p>\n

They then sat down to their meal.
\nLooking up, they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead,
\ntheir camels laden with gum, balm and resin
\nto be taken down to Egypt.
\nJudah said to his brothers:
\n“What is to be gained by killing our brother and concealing his blood?
\nRather, let us sell him to these Ishmaelites,
\ninstead of doing away with him ourselves.
\nAfter all, he is our brother, our own flesh.”
\nHis brothers agreed.
\nThey sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver.<\/p>\n

Gospel -Mt 21<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
\n“Hear another parable.
\nThere was a landowner who planted a vineyard,
\nput a hedge around it,
\ndug a wine press in it, and built a tower.
\nThen he leased it to tenants and went on a journey.
\nWhen vintage time drew near,
\nhe sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce.
\nBut the tenants seized the servants and one they beat,
\nanother they killed, and a third they stoned.
\nAgain he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones,
\nbut they treated them in the same way.
\nFinally, he sent his son to them,
\nthinking, ‘They will respect my son.’
\nBut when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another,
\n‘This is the heir.
\nCome, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’
\nThey seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
\nWhat will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?”
\nThey answered him,
\nAHe will put those wretched men to a wretched death
\nand lease his vineyard to other tenants
\nwho will give him the produce at the proper times.”
\nJesus said to them, ADid you never read in the Scriptures:<\/p>\n

The stone that the builders rejected
\nhas become the cornerstone;
\nby the Lord has this been done,
\nand it is wonderful in our eyes?<\/em><\/p>\n

Therefore, I say to you,
\nthe Kingdom of God will be taken away from you
\nand given to a people that will produce its fruit.”
\nWhen the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables,
\nthey knew that he was speaking about them.
\nAnd although they were attempting to arrest him,
\nthey feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet.<\/p>\n
