First Reading –\u00a0Hos 14<\/span><\/h4>\n

\n

Thus says the LORD:
\nReturn, O Israel, to the LORD, your God;
\nyou have collapsed through your guilt.
\nTake with you words,
\nand return to the LORD;
\nSay to him, “Forgive all iniquity,
\nand receive what is good, that we may render
\nas offerings the bullocks from our stalls.
\nAssyria will not save us,
\nnor shall we have horses to mount;
\nWe shall say no more, ‘Our god,’
\nto the work of our hands;
\nfor in you the orphan finds compassion.”<\/p>\n

I will heal their defection, says the LORD,
\nI will love them freely;
\nfor my wrath is turned away from them.
\nI will be like the dew for Israel:
\nhe shall blossom like the lily;
\nHe shall strike root like the Lebanon cedar,
\nand put forth his shoots.
\nHis splendor shall be like the olive tree
\nand his fragrance like the Lebanon cedar.
\nAgain they shall dwell in his shade
\nand raise grain;
\nThey shall blossom like the vine,
\nand his fame shall be like the wine of Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Ephraim! What more has he to do with idols?
\nI have humbled him, but I will prosper him.
\n“I am like a verdant cypress tree”\u2013
\nBecause of me you bear fruit!<\/p>\n

Let him who is wise understand these things;
\nlet him who is prudent know them.
\nStraight are the paths of the LORD,
\nin them the just walk,
\nbut sinners stumble in them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gospel -Mk 12<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him,
\n“Which is the first of all the commandments?”
\nJesus replied, “The first is this:
\nHear, O Israel!
\nThe Lord our God is Lord alone!
\nYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
\nwith all your soul,
\nwith all your mind,
\nand with all your strength.<\/em>
\nThe second is this:
\nYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.<\/em>
\nThere is no other commandment greater than these.”
\nThe scribe said to him, “Well said, teacher.
\nYou are right in saying,
\nHe is One and there is no other than he.
\nAnd to love him with all your heart,
\nwith all your understanding,
\nwith all your strength,
\nand to love your neighbor as yourself<\/em>
\nis worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
\nAnd when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding,
\nhe said to him,
\n“You are not far from the Kingdom of God.”
\nAnd no one dared to ask him any more questions.<\/p>\n
