First Reading –\u00a0Wis<\/span><\/h4>\n

The wicked said among themselves,
\nthinking not aright:
\n“Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us;
\nhe sets himself against our doings,
\nReproaches us for transgressions of the law
\nand charges us with violations of our training.
\nHe professes to have knowledge of God
\nand styles himself a child of the LORD.
\nTo us he is the censure of our thoughts;
\nmerely to see him is a hardship for us,
\nBecause his life is not like that of others,
\nand different are his ways.
\nHe judges us debased;
\nhe holds aloof from our paths as from things impure.
\nHe calls blest the destiny of the just
\nand boasts that God is his Father.
\nLet us see whether his words be true;
\nlet us find out what will happen to him.
\nFor if the just one be the son of God, he will defend him
\nand deliver him from the hand of his foes.
\nWith revilement and torture let us put him to the test
\nthat we may have proof of his gentleness
\nand try his patience.
\nLet us condemn him to a shameful death;
\nfor according to his own words, God will take care of him.”
\nThese were their thoughts, but they erred;
\nfor their wickedness blinded them,
\nand they knew not the hidden counsels of God;
\nneither did they count on a recompense of holiness
\nnor discern the innocent souls’ reward.<\/p>\n

Gospel – Jn 7<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesus moved about within Galilee;
\nhe did not wish to travel in Judea,
\nbecause the Jews were trying to kill him.
\nBut the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near.<\/p>\n

But when his brothers had gone up to the feast,
\nhe himself also went up, not openly but as it were in secret.<\/p>\n

Some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem said,
\n“Is he not the one they are trying to kill?
\nAnd look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him.
\nCould the authorities have realized that he is the Christ?
\nBut we know where he is from.
\nWhen the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.”
\nSo Jesus cried out in the temple area as he was teaching and said,
\n“You know me and also know where I am from.
\nYet I did not come on my own,
\nbut the one who sent me, whom you do not know, is true.
\nI know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
\nSo they tried to arrest him,
\nbut no one laid a hand upon him,
\nbecause his hour had not yet come.<\/p>\n
