The Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord today, which occurs forty days after Christmas.
According to Jewish law, parents had to their firstborn male child on the 40th day after his birth, and present him to God by offering a sacrifice in the temple.
This feast day celebrates the occasion when Jesus was presented to God by St. Joseph and Mother Mary in the temple.
Prayer –
Heavenly Father, On this feast of the Presentation in the Temple of your only Son made man,
Grant that we also may be presented to you fully renewed in spirit.
Through Jesus Christ, your Son who is God and lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
