St. Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, was born in Alexandria in AD 297. As a child he was educated under the eye of Bishop Alexander and he grew in knowledge and virtue. At the age of 23, he became a deacon and at the time took an active part against the rising heresy of Arius, who denied the Divinity of Christ. In AD 326, he was named successor by his Bishop and he became the Bishop of Alexandria.

He underwent many trials and persecutions for his stance against the Arian Heresy. But despite this, this great champion of the Faith  was resilient in his defense of the true faith. He died in AD 373 and is considered a Doctor of the Church.
